Our Story
We’ve Been Machining Precision Parts since 2015.
MCHND started in late 2015 in a garden shed, run on weekends with one CNC lathe and one CNC mill. We made high-performance car parts for Mike’s business and precision BMX and cycling components for Jimmy’s.
In 2018 we moved into a factory in Richmond with our first two CNC machines, and Mike and Jimmy went full-time in the business.
We gained ISO9001:2015 accreditation in 2020, and we’re now working toward AS9100 certification and DISP clearance.
In late 2021 we moved into our current facility, fitted with 96 solar panels as part of our commitment to green machining.
In 2023 we added our first robot, working alongside our two Okuma mills. This gives us one of the most efficient machining cells in Australia: 50 pallets shared across two CNC milling machines, made up of a 20-pallet pool for 5-axis work, a 10-pallet pool for 4-axis work, and a 20-pallet pool for 3-axis work. It lets us run unattended “lights out” production around the clock.
Today, MCHND is known for machining complex components for Space, Aerospace, and Medical applications, thanks to our machinists and engineers.
Meet Mike: A Lifelong Passion for Precision and Innovation
From a young age, Mike’s passion for creation and DIY projects has been a driving force, instilled by his father, the esteemed ‘Stevo’ Harding. Upon completing his Toolmaking apprenticeship in 1999, Mike swiftly transitioned to the world of CNC machines, and his journey into this cutting-edge technology became a lifelong commitment. With a career spanning diverse industries, including a remarkable three-year tenure in the UK’s Formula One sector, Mike has honed a comprehensive skill set encompassing CAD design, 5-axis CAM machining, 9-axis Multitasking machining, manual machining, and astute business management.
In his leisure hours, Mike finds solace in quality time with his children, embarking on outdoor adventures through camping, and indulging his need for speed on the racetrack.
Meet Jimmy: A Heritage of Engineering Excellence
Born into a lineage of engineers spanning three generations, James, fondly known as “Jimmy,” was immersed in the world of engineering from the outset. His early years were shaped by the captivating spectacle of his father meticulously crafting historic racing engines from scratch within the family’s engineering establishment, igniting a lifelong passion for precision machining.
Upon the completion of his apprenticeship in Toolmaking alongside Mike, Jimmy embarked on a journey to Melbourne, where he gained invaluable experience in the realm of production machining. His expertise now encompasses the operation of Multitasking Lathes, Swiss Lathes, and adept CAD design.
Beyond the workshop, Jimmy finds his equilibrium in the exhilaration of motorbike rides, BMX adventures, camping escapades, globe-trotting, tranquil fishing outings, and the joy of cheering on his children as they partake in various sporting pursuits.
